Police announced the arrest of a man in connection with a bank robbery in East LA last week.
Ray Vega, a 33-year-old resident of Bell, Calif., was arrested last Thursday. Sources told the Los Angeles Times that Vega is an acquaintance of the bank manager who was kidnapped and forced to hand money over to her abductors.
The bank manager, whose identity is being protected, told authorities that she was kidnapped from her home in Huntington Park the morning of Sept. 5. Her abductors forced her to wear what she thought was a vest rigged with explosives while the suspects robbed the bank.
Her abductors escaped with the money and a bomb squad was sent to the crime scene to neutralize the potentially explosive vest. A technician removed the vest from the manager's body, reports the Times. A robot then detonated the vest just outside the bank's doors.
The dramatic incident was filmed live by local news outlets (video above).
Vega was arrested a day after the robbery. He later posted bail (set at $100,000) and was released from custody.
The investigation is ongoing and Huntington Beach police are refusing to comment on the case.
