What Is A Link Pyramid & How Does It Help With Building Link ...

building link popularityLast week I attended the first of an 8 week course on Traffic Generation with the Tate Brothers who are absolute traffic geniuses. One of the biggest take-aways from this session was the concept of a link pyramid! I?ve heard the term only one time before and as Ryan and Bryan Tate explained ?what is a link pyramid?, how it worked, as well as when and where you should use it, I became more intrigued and immediately began researching more about link pyramids, link wheels and other related terms such as building link popularity to see what I could begin implementing in my own marketing strategy to increase my traffic generation.

So today I want to share with you some of the basics surrounding link pyramids and how you can begin implementing a plan to boost your leads within the next 24-48 hours. Let?s get stared?

A link pyramid are backlinks that are layered in such a way that when you map out the link building process in a diagram it actually looks like a pyramid. Link Pyramids are usually divided into 3 tiers in the form of a pyramid. At the top of the pyramid are the highest-quality links pointing to your website or money-site (tier 1), then the middle layer is the mid-grade links (tier 2) and finally at the bottom part are the base links (tier 3).

what is a link pyramid

If we take a look at the diagram above (provided by SEOLinkCafe) at the top of the link pyramid you will see what?s called the ?money-site? which is the site you want to rank, then the 2nd layer contains High PR links normally a fairly low amount, below 1000, then you have poor quality links normally PR0 that you link to the High PR backlinks, normally there are 1000s of these.

Why Does A Link Pyramid Work?

Link pyramids are effective in boosting your rank within Google and other major search engines because the process gets the high PR backlinks indexed and it passes all the link juice from the low quality PR backlinks onto the high PR backlinks, making them even stronger. This is extremely effective for SEO as you want as many high quality, natural-looking backlinks as possible pointing back to your site.

How Is A Link Pyramid Different From A Link Wheel?

Now for those of you who begin to look more into link building techniques, what is a link pyramid, etc., you?ll also come across terms like Link wheel and building link popularity, so I want to take a minute to out those as well so you can see the whole picture.

Link Wheel The concept behind link wheels is to create a pattern of links which flow from one website to another (in a circle) which would finally link to the money-site you are promoting. Your money site can be your blog, your facebook page or a lead capture page. Creating a link wheel is an extremely effective SEO strategy that online marketers can implement to improve the rankings of their sites. Link wheels have maximum effectiveness when popular social media sites are used.

What Makes Link Wheels Work?

A link wheel leverages the ?juice? of highly ranked Web 2.0 sites, think Facebook, WordPress Blogs, Hubpages, and Squidoo, to build targeted backlinks back to your money-site. This works because most Web 2.0 properties allow you to not only publish your own content on their sites, but to add your own backlinks to this content as well.

Google loves social media influence and many times your content can end up ranking pretty well from these networks. If you can generate 5-10 of these social backlinks that point back to your site it can be very powerful. This is what forms the core of the link wheel strategy. To maximize efficiency (and to not get slapped by Google) you want to make sure your link pattern is organic and natural. Link wheels should include a natural flow from one site to the next not be framed to trick the search engines but should include a natural flow from one site to another.

The whole point of implementing a link pyramid and link wheel strategy is to build link popularity. Building?link popularity and link quality are very important because every major search engine now considers them as a part of their ranking algorithms. If you don?t have links, you won?t rank well for competitive keywords. PERIOD

What Is Link Popularity?

Link popularity is the measure of inbound links to your web site. If you?ve done all your keyword research and on-page SEO then your focus should turn to getting high quality sites to link back to your SEO content. The right way to exchange links is by finding quality, relevant sites with which to exchange links.? You do not want to be listed on or associated with poor quality websites. If you want to rank high on Google make sure you are getting backlinks from relevant sites that have lots of quality traffic and awesome content. These are the links that search engines care about.

3. Press Releases

Take advantage of press releases. If your company or website does anything newsworthy, publish a press release.
