Job Description Summary:
The Assistant Director serves as the primary editorial point of contact for the alumni news blog and monthly alumni e-newsletter. The Assistant Director will work with colleagues in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations on content distribution and dissemination through multiple channels - including, but not limited to print stories and design projects, electronic outreach, multimedia and web content. This position will also be responsible for collaborating with other University communication departments and producing content for other university publications - such as GW Magazine and GW Today.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of relevant experience required. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Desired Qualifications:
Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Three years of experience in higher education, or a related field such as, communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations.

JOB DUTIES

  • Edits and contributes to Colonial Cable alumni news blog (built on WordPress platform). Manages production and distribution of monthly alumni e-newsletter, highlighting top content from news blog.
  • Provides writing and production support for print and online materials, including GW Magazine, GW Today, alumni website, and other alumni publications.
  • Manages design projects, serving as a liaison between Alumni Relations staff and graphic designers to produce marketing materials for various programs and services.
  • Facilitates alumni digital outreach, including but not limited to email communication, volunteer tracking/outreach, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, blogs, etc.
  • Compiles communications metrics and periodically benchmark communications efforts. Includes but not limited to analyzing alumni survey data, alumni website traffic, e-mail open rates / click-throughs, alumni online community membership, LinkedIn/Facebook/Twitter group membership, and efforts by peer schools.
  • Develops, updates, and disseminates alumni facts and figures and talking points.
  • Maintains archives of alumni/donor stories, photos and testimonials.
  • Supports major events such as Alumni Reunion Weekend and Alumni Association Board meetings
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
